RACE stroke scale

The RACE scale is a simplification of the NIHSS scale, using those items with a higher ability to predict the presence of an LVO. The RACE scale evaluates five items:

  • Facial palsy
  • Brachial paresis
  • Crural paresis
  • Oculocephalic deviation
  • Sphasia/agnosia

A score ≥ 5 indicates the possibility of an LVO, with a sensitivity of 85% and specificity of 69%.
