FH Web server system requirements

When you are planning to use FH with FH Web, the FH Web server requires one of the following Windows operating systems:

Software requirements

  • One of the following 64-bit operating systems.

    • Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2
    • Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2
    • Windows Server 2016
  • The server must have TCP/IP installed as a network protocol.
  • The server must have an open port (by default, ports 80 and 491 are used).
  • The server must run Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 6.0 or later.
  • The FH Web server (or the FH Web load balancing server) must have Web services installed and active.
  • You must have unique Windows logons with modify rights to the FH program directory (by default, C:\FIREHOUSE Software) for each user accessing FH Web.

Note: If FH Web Server is hosting multiple databases, each user trying to access two or more databases must have an independent remote folder related to that FH database. As a result, each user must have a separate Windows login for each FH database they need to access.

Note:

  • Where applicable, these operating systems are supported with or without the Security Rollup Package.
  • FH Web includes support for WoW64 (Windows 32-bit on Windows 64-bit), which allows 32-bit applications to run on 64-bit versions of Windows.
  • FH Web supports VMware ESXi and Hyper-V in Windows Server 2008 R2.

Hardware requirements

Note: The FH Web hardware in the table below* is required in addition to Windows' requirements for a minimum or recommended system.

Component

Minimum

Recommended

RAM

2 GB for each group of 50 active** users

4 GB for each group of 10 active** users

HDD

50 GB or more, plus 1.25 GB for each group of 50 total*** users

300 GB or more, plus 1 GB for each group of 25 total*** users

CPU 1 core for each group of 50 active** users 2 cores for each group of 20 active** users

*Your hardware requirements may be higher than listed above, based on the number of concurrent users, other applications running on the server, server configuration, and network configuration. All requirements are subject to change. The faster your server is, the better system-wide response will be. In general, a FH Web server can support 12 “heavy” users/500 MHz CPU and 25 “light” users/500 MHz CPU. (“Heavy” is defined as a user running one or more large applications with continuous user interaction. “Light” is defined as a user running one application with intermittent user interaction.)

The color depth of the server should be greater than 256 colors; 16 million colors is recommended.

If you add a relay server for load balancing to your FH Web installation, the relay server must have Web services installed and active.

**Active = Users currently using the FH Web server

***Total = All users that can log into the FH Web server
