Power
All computer, data communications, and environmental equipment is served with sophisticated power conditioning equipment to minimize disruptions in service from exterior power fluctuations. Additionally, all vital system components are attached to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system that provides power monitoring and line conditioning, as well as automatic switching to a battery system. The facility uses N+1 capabilities encompassing multiple UPS modules. At current loads, the N-battery system can function approximately 15 minutes at full capacity.
ONCOR provides separate substations to the facility, enabling a transfer to the second feed if power is lost to the primary feed. These have an automatic transfer switch with dual feeder supplies (both with 13kV). Each substation consists of two or more transformers, with each transformer serving four 13kV feeders; each of the two transformers at the substation is supplied by two separate and independent transmission sources.
The data center electrical system is backed up with a parallel/redundant diesel generator system that provides a third power source to the data center in the event of utility power failure. These generators automatically provide emergency backup power to the UPS and environmental equipment through automatic transfer switches (ATS) in the event of commercial power loss for a minimum of 48 hours without refueling.
